Accessibility Statement
1. Our commitment
Dextrata Software Inc. is committed to making Road English usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.
2. Conformance status
Road English aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. "Aims to conform" means we have designed and built to that standard and test against it, but we have not completed a formal third-party audit, and we do not claim that every page conforms at every moment. Where we fall short, we want to know and we will fix it.
This statement is made in good faith and is our own assessment. It is not a warranty, and it does not create any contractual obligation beyond what applicable accessibility law independently requires of us.
3. What we have done
- Semantic HTML with landmark regions, correct heading order, and a "skip to content" link on the home page and every lesson page.
- Full keyboard operability — every control is reachable and usable without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator.
- Text contrast targeted at WCAG AA ratios, and a layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 px.
- Text that resizes to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Labels, names, and accessible descriptions on form fields and buttons; status messages announced through live regions.
- No content that flashes, no auto-playing audio, and no time limits on any lesson.
- Every lesson phrase is available as both written text and audio, which supports learners with low vision and learners with reading difficulty alike.
- Right-to-left layout support for the Arabic and Urdu editions.
- The legal pages are readable without JavaScript, and lesson audio degrades to built-in browser speech if our audio service is unavailable.
4. Known limitations
We are aware of the following, and are working on them:
- Synthetic speech. Lesson audio is machine-generated. Pronunciation may be imperfect, and it is not a substitute for a human recording.
- Machine-assisted translations. The Russian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Urdu, and Croatian interface text is an unreviewed draft; wording read aloud by a screen reader may be awkward or wrong.
- Third-party payment window. The checkout is rendered by our payment processor, Helcim, inside their own frame. Its accessibility is controlled by Helcim, not by us. If you cannot complete checkout with your assistive technology, email us and we will arrange payment another way.
- No separate captions on audio. Lesson audio has no caption track, because every clip is a spoken version of text already displayed in full on the same page.
5. Tell us about a barrier
If any part of Road English blocks you, email [email protected] with the page address and what happened. We aim to acknowledge within 5 business days and to respond substantively within 30 days. If we cannot fix something quickly, we will tell you and offer the content another way.
You may also request any course material in an alternative accessible format at no additional cost.
6. Applicable law
We aim to meet our obligations under the Canadian Accessible Canada Act and applicable provincial accessibility legislation (including the Ontario Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the British Columbia Accessible British Columbia Act), the United States Americans with Disabilities Act as applied to commercial web services, and, for users in the European Union, the European Accessibility Act as implemented in member-state law.
If you are in the EU and are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the enforcement body designated in your member state.
